Setup

  • Pair players up with one cradling the ball slowly, one defending.
Approach and Check DrillOCradles slowlyXChecks the stickApproach under control; check the stick, never the body

Instructions

  1. The carrier cradles at a walking pace in a small area.
  2. The defender approaches under control and times a check on the carrier's stick (not their body or hands).
  3. Reset after each attempt and switch who is carrying.
  4. Progress to a slow jog once checks are safe and well-timed.
Coaching Points
  • Approach with balance and control - a defender who's off balance can't check safely or effectively.
  • Check the stick, always the stick, never the body or arms.
  • Stay in a defensive stance through and after the check attempt.

Variation

Add a change-of-direction move for the carrier once basic checking timing is solid.
