Defensive Tag DrillXIt (defender)12345Everyone slides low; “It” tags with an active-hands swipeTagged players become defenders too

Instructions

  1. All non-it players move around the boundary using a defensive slide, staying low with feet sliding rather than running upright.
  2. Defenders try to tag another player while staying in their own defensive stance the whole time.
  3. A tagged player becomes a defender too, until only one or two players remain.
  4. Restart with new starting defenders for another round.
Coaching Points
  • Everyone, offense and defenders, must stay in a low defensive stance the entire time.
  • Reward players who slide their feet correctly, not just the fastest tagger.
  • Keep the boundary small enough that the game stays fast-paced.

Variation

Require defenders to tag with an active-hands swipe rather than a two-hand touch, to reinforce hand activity.
