PassingOff-Ball Movement

Box Drill (Give and Go)1234cut15 x 15 yd box, one player per conePass, cut to the middle, fill the open corner

Instructions

  1. The player with the ball passes to an adjacent corner, then immediately cuts hard toward the middle of the box.
  2. The receiving player catches, has the option to hit the cutter for a quick return pass, or resets to another corner.
  3. The cutting player, if not hit, continues through and fills the open corner to keep the box balanced.
  4. Continue rotating passes and cuts for 2 minutes, then reverse the direction of ball movement.
Coaching Points
  • The cut after the pass should be immediate and purposeful — standing still after a pass is the single habit this drill is designed to break.
  • Receivers should look the cutter off before deciding whether to feed them, exactly like reading a defense.
  • Keep passes crisp and chest-high so the box keeps moving at a game-like tempo.
  • This drill scales directly into a settled offense concept once players are comfortable with the pattern.

Variation

Add a defender in the middle of the box to contest passing lanes and cutting lanes, or run two balls at once for an advanced decision-making challenge.
