- Partners kneel or stand a short distance apart, one ball per pair.
- Focus entirely on the glove hand for this drill.
Instructions
- Roll or gently toss the ball directly at the partner's glove.
- Receiver angles the glove open toward the ball and lets it settle in rather than stabbing at it.
- Bring the throwing hand over the top to secure the ball immediately after it lands in the glove.
- Continue for 10–12 reps, then switch roles.
Coaching Points
- "Soft hands" — let the ball come to the glove rather than reaching aggressively at it.
- Two hands finish every catch: glove first, throwing hand secures it right after.
- Keep the glove low and open for ground balls, up and ready for anything in the air.
- This is about trust and comfort with the glove — keep reps easy and successful early on.
Variation
Progress from rolled balls to gentle bounces, then to soft tosses in the air, building difficulty gradually.
