Equipment Needed
- One basketball per player
Every player needs their own ball
A multi-pack of training basketballs means the whole group can work the figure-8 pattern at once.

- Each player has a ball and stands with feet shoulder-width apart, knees bent.
- Enough space to stay in one spot without bumping neighbors.
Instructions
- Dribble the ball in a figure-8 pattern around and between both legs continuously.
- Complete 15 continuous figure-8s without stopping the pattern.
- Switch direction (reverse the figure-8) for another 15 reps.
- Finish with 10 reps at a faster pace while staying under control.
Coaching Points
- Stay low in an athletic stance throughout — standing up straight makes the pattern much harder to control.
- The ball should never bounce higher than the knee during this drill.
- Head up, eyes forward, even though the hands are doing all the work.
- If the pattern breaks down, restart calmly rather than rushing to catch up.
Variation
Add a slow walk forward once the stationary figure-8 is consistent, or have players count reps out loud for a pacing challenge.
