Equipment Needed
- 1 ball per pair
Setup
- Partners stand roughly 15 to 20 feet apart, facing each other.
- One partner starts with the ball to begin the exchange.
Instructions
- Player A hits (or hard-taps) the ball down at Player B.
- Player B digs the ball, controlling it back up to Player A.
- Player A sets the ball back to Player B, who hits it back down, and the cycle repeats continuously.
- Keep the exchange going for 1 to 2 minute rounds, resetting only when the ball is dropped.
Coaching Points
- Platform stays flat and firm on the dig — no swinging the arms at the ball.
- Move the feet to get in line with the ball rather than reaching with the arms.
- Sets should be soft and controlled, giving the hitter an easy target above the net-height reach.
- Hits should start controlled — this drill is about touch and repetition, not power.
Variation
Increase the distance between partners to add difficulty, or add a required footwork pattern (shuffle, cross-step) between each contact.
