A multi-pack of training balls keeps finishing reps flowing even with a defender closing every time.

- A server feeds balls to a striker inside the box; a recovering defender starts a step behind and a live goalkeeper defends the goal.
- Balls are served from varying angles to change the shooting picture.
Instructions
- The server plays the ball to the striker as the defender starts their recovery run from behind.
- The striker must control and finish before the defender can close the distance and make a challenge.
- Vary the service: ground balls, half-volleys, and lofted balls, to challenge different technique.
- Rotate strikers, defenders, and servers every 6–8 reps.
Coaching Points
- Decide the finish (near post, far post, low, driven) before the ball even arrives — hesitating under pressure is what defenders exploit.
- A quick, lower-percentage shot is often better than a delayed, higher-percentage one once a defender is closing fast.
- Body shape and balance matter more under pressure than they do in an unopposed finishing drill — coach the base of the shot, not just the strike.
- Realistic pressure changes everything; don't skip straight to full-speed defenders before the technique is solid unopposed.
Variation
Add a second defender to force an even quicker decision, or restrict strikers to one touch before shooting for an advanced session.
