Make the triggers easy to see
A set of pinnies makes it instantly clear which unit is pressing, which speeds up recognizing the trigger.

- Set up a possession game near one end of the field with a defending team pressing high.
- Identify specific trigger moments in advance (e.g. a back pass, a heavy touch).
Instructions
- The defending team holds a mid-block shape until a trigger moment occurs.
- On the trigger, the nearest defenders explode into a coordinated press, cutting off passing lanes.
- The rest of the team steps up together to compress space and support the press.
- If the press is beaten, the team recovers into shape quickly rather than chasing individually.
Coaching Points
- Everyone has to recognize the SAME trigger at the SAME time — walk through the specific cues before going live.
- The press only works with the team stepping up together; one player pressing alone just opens space behind them.
- Cutting off the easiest pass (usually backward or square) forces the mistake the press is designed to win.
- Have a clear "press is beaten" recognition point so the team drops calmly instead of chasing into a bad shape.
Variation
Add a numerical disadvantage for the pressing team to raise the difficulty, or film the session to review trigger recognition afterward.
