Setup

  • Players line up behind a leader (coach or player), each with a ball.
  • Use an open area with enough room for the line to move and turn.
Follow the Leader Dribbling Drill1Players dribble in a line, copying the leaderLeader changes speed and direction; rotate leaders often

Instructions

  1. The leader dribbles around the space; everyone in line copies their path exactly.
  2. The leader changes speed, direction, and occasionally stops the ball completely.
  3. After a minute or two, rotate a new player to the front to lead.
  4. Keep the line moving without players bunching too close together.
Coaching Points
  • Keep the ball within a step of the foot at all times — that's the whole point of the drill.
  • Following players need enough space to dribble safely without kicking a neighbor's ball.
  • Encourage leaders to use both feet, not just their favorite.
  • Rotate leaders often so every player gets a turn.

Variation

Add cones to weave through for the line to follow, or have the leader call out a simple move (stop, turn) for everyone to copy.
