Keep pucks moving
A bulk bag of practice pucks keeps power-play setup reps flowing through a full unit walk-through.

- Five power-play skaters set up in their designated spots (point, half-boards, bumper, and two down low).
- Simulated penalty-killers (or cones) mark typical defensive positioning.
Instructions
- The point player controls the puck, looking to move it to the half-boards or across to the other point.
- The bumper (middle) player finds soft areas in the penalty kill's coverage to receive and redirect.
- The two low players work below the goal line, cycling the puck and looking for seam passes back up.
- Move the puck with a purpose — every pass should either improve the shooting angle or manipulate the penalty kill's shape.
Coaching Points
- Puck movement is what makes a power play dangerous; a stationary formation is easy for a penalty kill to defend.
- The bumper's job is to find soft ice between penalty killers, constantly adjusting position rather than standing still.
- One-timers from the point or half-boards are often the highest-percentage shot this formation creates — rep the timing specifically.
- Patience matters; forcing a low-percentage shot early in the possession often wastes a full power-play opportunity.
Variation
Add a live penalty-killing unit to make the reads fully live, or run a specific scripted play (e.g., a set faceoff-win shot) within the formation.
