Serve Accuracy Zones Drill123SServe to the called zone; score by zone value

Instructions

  1. Server executes their serve, aiming for a specific called zone.
  2. Track points based on which zone the serve lands in.
  3. Rotate through 8–10 serves per player, calling a different target zone for variety.
  4. Total up scores at the end for a simple, motivating competition.
Coaching Points
  • Consistent toss placement is the foundation of serve accuracy — a bad toss makes even good technique unreliable.
  • Encourage players to serve to their strength zone in a game, but practice all zones here to build a complete toolkit.
  • A slower, more controlled serve that reliably lands in a zone often beats a hard serve that's inconsistent.
  • This is a great way to make serving repetitions — which need real volume to improve — feel purposeful rather than mechanical.

Variation

Add a defender in the target zone to simulate serving at a specific opponent, or run it as a team competition with combined scores.
